Barry has lived in Vernon since 2014. This is officially his retirement home. In 1970, he earned his private pilots license, but didn’t fly much until the early 1990’s. By then, he was well into a long career as an ambulance paramedic. His commercial pilots license came in 1999, and by the time he retired from BC Ambulance in 2005, his seasonal flying jobs occupied summers. He’s done glider towing, survey flying, fire patrol, animal tracking (telemetry), and aerial photography, and flew several different airplanes in the work.
From 2006 to 2016, Barry wrote aviation articles which were carried monthly in the COPA Flight, and several other aviation publications. Some can still be found on the internet.
He joined the Vernon Flying Club in 2014 for the fellowship, the learning experience that is so valuable, and to contribute what he can as a member. He flies a 172 owned in a partnership, and travels as a snowbird to a winter home in the Southwest U.S.
